Designer Series: The Modern Homestead Space with @jgcolorstudios
We’re back at it again this summer with another incredible design collaboration with our latest designer, Jen Guerin of JG Color Studios, executed by Heidi and Johnna. Jen joined us to create an incredible dining and living experience with her own unique touch. With her background as a color consultant, Jen was selected to participate in HGTV’s Design Star in their fourth season. She notes this as to when she really started injecting color into the designs she was doing for clients.
When asked how she approached her concept for this project she says she and her team looked at the space as a puzzle. They wanted to see how each piece could contribute to the story and create warmth, comfort, and style into the overall design. She describes it as creating a visual soundtrack for a room (which we absolutely loved)!
Products Styled
To achieve both designs, the following two products were styled using a blend of in-store furniture accents, studio props, and Jen’s own accent pieces.
Room #2: Color Splash
For the living room design, Jen centered the design around the Beta Sofa in Hubbard Midnight as the main piece and flanked with the Adelaide Accent Chairs in Boucle White. To add function to the space she selected the Circularity Coffee Table in Dark Gray/White and paired the chairs with the Hogan Accent Ottoman in Sienna Leather. Staying true to her style, she accented with incredible color pieces in her pillows and wall décor. She selected the Capiz Drum Accent Table in Black and Colldale Arc Floor Lamp to accessorize the design and tied it all together with the
Comfort Shag Rug in White 8x10. And we absolutely loved the touch of the Drice Sculpture which she affectionately calls ‘Stan’ and describes him as a disco diva who belongs at the center stage of this whimsical space.
When asked about design advice for anyone looking to incorporate color and texture into their space, Jen recommends any items that spark joy or remind you of a moment or person are the best pieces to play with. She suggests mixing them on a wall, bookcase or even a coffee table so you can feel that joy every time you see it. She also feels like rules are made to be broken in design – so, go ahead and mix metals, textures, and anything else that gives you that dopamine décor feel. It’s advice that we absolutely love and will be taking into our own homes.
